Description and an unflattering photo of Sterling from his Record of Service (army) book:

Street photographers were active in Sydney in the 1940s, with women seemingly always slim and elegantly dressed. This is Sterling in his army uniform with his wife Brenda.

Brenda with her brother Norman and son during the war: all of her 4 brothers enlisted during the war with 2 dying on active service. One of the 2 survivors, Norman was in the RAAF and, as seen here, had his leg amputated; he died in 1961. Brenda's mother also died during the war, in 1944.1)
