Landscapes

The initial paintings on this page are by George Hart-Taylor. For the definitive article about him, see Dianne Byrne, 'George Hart-Taylor: rediscovering an important Queensland landscape painter', Australiania, February 2025, 47:1, pp.8-27.

The first painting shown here by George Hart Taylor is of Mt Lindesay which was on Maroon's southern boundary. Unfortunately the painting has been badly damaged by light, with the original colour only showing at the top because of previous poor framing.1)

The Murray-Prior papers at the Mitchell Library also include these three watercolours by George Hart Taylor,4) presumably of scenes at Maroon:

1)
Provenance: A torn, aging note indicates that it once belonged to Rosa Praed, 'Given to me by my brother' and at Torquay (where Rosa then lived) on 19 June 1092, it was given to Dorothy and Ruth Murray-Prior. After Dorothy died, it belonged solely to her sister Ruth who left it and other family items to her brother ES Murray-Prior who in turn gave it to his daughter J. Godden
