Street photographers were active in Sydney in the 1940s, with women seemingly always slim and elegantly dressed. This is Sterling in his army uniform with his wife Brenda. {{:sterling_uniform_brenda.jpg?300|}}\\

Brenda with her brother Norman and son during the war: all of her 4 brothers enlisted during the war with 2 dying on active service. One of the 2 survivors, Norman was in the RAAF and, as seen here, had his leg amputated; he died in 1961.
